Sometimes there are things that we don’t want to share with others, or things we need to process before we share. If there isn’t a deeply trusted friend handy, try telling your story to a journal. Paper and ink don’t judge, but they help you think through and think about things in a generally helpful way.
Not a writer, you say?
1.) Try it anyway and you may discover that you ARE a writer
2.) Try a voice recorder
3.) Try an app
4.) Here are some starter questions and prompts:
- What’s my dream life? – describe in detail
- What do I value in relationships?
- What’s my most recurring feeling?
- What do I need to let go of?
- Where do I want to be in 5 years?
- What do I need less of in my life?
- What are values I’d like to live by?
- What do I love most about myself?
- What three things make me happiest?
Remember that we aren’t looking for a Pulitzer Prize, but to gain some clarity about experiences in our lives. That can be a great reward! And if you really don’t think it will help to journal, please give yourself the gift of 15 minutes to journal each day for 3 consecutive days. If you don’t find ANY value after 3 days, maybe it’s time to try adopting another tool. Thanks for giving it an honest try.
Thanks for taking good care of you!
